I was in 11th grade when I was preparing the the SATs and in a class that was supposed to help us prepare for the vocabulary part. I came across the word “eclectic” and almost jumped out of my chair and yelled, “This is me!”
Eclectic – a person who derives ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.
As a kid I liked so many things. I had a variety of tastes and couldn’t be defined by a single interest or focus. I a way this was frustrating because I was never interested in anyone thing enough to really excel at it. I loved baseball, but there were other things that interested me that took me away from pursuing this sport solely. I always wondered how moderately talented baseball player would have been if I has devoted much more time to the sport. I guess we’ll never know.
This has stayed with me throughout my life and I’m happy with it. I proudly wear the tile of “eclectic.” It is a bit frustrating in my academic endeavors. There isn’t really one thing in my academic pursuits that I just want to do all the time. However, I do seem to be drawn to technology and with that the field of social media.
